This is a totally fun read. I put my copy on my desk at work for my co-workers to enjoy -- and they have! Even the ones who don't follow college football have gotten a kick out of it (and it has led to a couple of them even telling me about school rivalries they grew up with themselves). A good, fun book for anyone -- especially those who get a kick out of sports rivalries.
I don't know the first thing about college football, but this little morsel had me laughing out loud. I love how it takes us from pure childhood innocence into the hilarious grown-up dark side of sports obsession and rivalry, and back to innocence once again. How can sports fans not find this a delicious read? And anyone lucky enough to have grown up in such a divided household will likely wet themselves.
What fun! For anyone for whom Saturday afternoons are sacred, held so for very serious football-watching -- and the children who love them. I laughed out loud more than once, picturing these poor kids trying to sort out what their 'divided' parents were hollering about. The illustrations are perfect - just as nostalgic, funny and sweet as the story. Loved it!
Loved it - even though I was tempted to insert my own, "See Bama. See Bama score! Score Bama, score!!" But then it wouldn't have been balanced and this is one brilliantly executed study in college football equilibrium. It also strikes the perfect balance between parody and tribute, so it's a no-brainer must-have for every college football fan on your gift list. Order now, before it's added to the Alabama primary school curriculum and impossible to find!
If you are from the south, know someone who is from the south, are thinking of moving to the south, want to be from the south or will one day drive through the south... This book is indispensable. Hilarious, on target and beautiful.
This is a HILARIOUS book written through a child's eyes living in a house divided. In our house Mommy DOES love Bama and Daddy loves Auburn. Our adult daughter read it and loved it! She said "Oh, this is so us when I was growing up".
Having grown up in a mixed home myself (Texas Longhorns/Texas Aggies) I can totally relate to the pain and angst it can create. Ms. Heitt has captured the essence of what families like ours went through, and offers a glimmer of hope and humor for those subjected to this twisted and torturous behavior. This book is a public service to rivalry survivors everywhere - no matter where you're from, or what color your parents wear on game day. Well done!
